Boosting electric vehicle charging

How can the transition to electricity for professional vehicles be facilitated?

 In the urban context, 20% of the vehicles are professional ones - delivering vans, taxi, VTC, that are precisely the ones traveling the most. All of them use diesel engines that need to be renewed every 4 to 5 years. In the context of diesel prohibition in Paris by 2024, the City, Enedis, Sopra Steria and Total want to offer a new solution to encourage professionals to use electric vehicles as soon as possible. The experimentation aims at identifying accurate locations to deploy fast charging points.

// USE CASE

Taxis drive an average 300 miles a day, tenfold the distance of an individual, so they can wait hours to charge their engine. Today, there is no adapted solution to their charging needs. How can we convince them to swap for electric vehicles in such a context? In addition, quick and efficient charging solution (high power) requires important investments. The pooling of resources is necessary, as well as the quality of the coordination between the different stakeholders involved.

// BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

This challenge will enable Total to complete its offer and to back the energy transition of its B2B clients in the transport sector. Sopra Steria will beneficiate from a follow-up of the key initiatives in the smart city environment, urban mobility and service platform. As for Enedis, the development of the solution will help the company to rationalise its network costs. Last but not least, the City Hall will have a room for manoeuvre to ensure the respect of the regulation, the Crit’Air calendar, sanitary objectives, improvement of air quality.
